How to measure your glass for window film
Grab a tape measure. Five short steps, then type your sizes below: you will know your tier, your price and what to type on Amazon before you open it. For several panes and a total, use the cost calculator.
You need
- A tape measure that reads inches
- Pen and paper, or this page open
- Each pane, measured on its own
1Step one
Measure the glass, not the frame
Measure the visible glass of the pane, in inches. Leave out the frame around it: the film is cut to the glass.
2Step two
Width × height: the longest side picks the tier
Measure the width and the height. Your longest side picks the price tier (Step 1 on Amazon): a 21.25 × 46.75 in pane is the 48 inch tier. Then you type your exact width × height in Step 2.
Longer than 96 in: please message us before ordering.
3Step three
Over 46 in on the shorter side: two pieces
The film comes off a 46 inch roll, so one piece covers up to 46 in on the shorter side (46 × 80 in is one piece). If your shorter side is over 46 in, we make it in two pieces at no extra charge (47 × 80 in is two pieces).
You pick the seam in Step 3 on Amazon: horizontal (pieces top and bottom) or vertical (pieces side by side).
4Step four
Circles: use the diameter
For a round pane, pick the tier for the diameter, then write “circle” and the diameter in the size box. Rounded corners or an odd shape? Order the rectangle that covers it and trim the corners while installing.
5Step five
French doors: each pane on its own
Measure each pane of a French door on its own. One piece covers one pane. Which listing, and how many to order, depends on the pane size:
Which listing for French-door panes?
- Panes up to 6 × 12 in: a 10-pack, ten pre-cut 6 × 12 in pieces, $22.99 (smaller panes: trim the piece to fit). Frosted 10-pack (opens Amazon in a new tab) · Rainbow 10-pack (opens Amazon in a new tab)
- Other panes up to 20 in on the longest side: Frosted French Door, custom cut (opens Amazon in a new tab), $4.99 to $8.99 a pane (12, 14, 16, 18 or 20 in tier). Quantity = number of panes; every piece in one order is cut to the same size, so panes of different sizes are separate orders.
- Bigger panes, and rainbow panes that aren’t 6 × 12 in: the regular custom listings, priced below. Fill in the Customize form once for each different size. Several panes of the same size: one item, with the cart quantity set to the number of panes.
Tick “French-door pane” in the price box below to compare. Amazon shows the final price at checkout.
Price one pane here
Type one pane’s glass size. You get the tier, the price for each film and whether it comes in one piece or two. Pricing several panes? The cost calculator explains the tiers and adds them up.
On the custom listings the price is the same for frosted and rainbow. French-door panes have their own prices; tick “French-door pane”. Amazon shows the final price at checkout.
Before you buy
Frosted film blurs the view by day and at night, but at night with the lights on inside, someone close to the glass can show as a soft silhouette.
Rainbows show in direct sun only.
Neither film holds on heavily textured or pebbled glass.
Copy, paste, done
Amazon can’t take a ready-made order from us, so this card writes each value exactly the way Amazon’s Customize form asks for it. Add every pane, then copy each value into the same box on the product page.
Your card stays on this device, so the ordering guide can replay it with your numbers.
Fill in the Customize form once for each different size. Several panes of the same size: one item, with the cart quantity set to the number of panes.
French-door pane? Tick it on that pane: the card then picks the 10-pack or the French Door listing where it fits, and asks how many panes are that size. See step five.
