Tips and honest answers

The questions people ask before they order, answered straight. Including the ones where the answer is “no”.

  1. Privacy & light
  2. Your glass
  3. Sizes
  4. Ordering
  5. Install & removal

The two big ones

Frosted: a person close to the glass at night with the lights on can show as a soft silhouette.

Rainbow: rainbows show in direct sun only.

Privacy & light

Can people see in at night?

Frosted: it blurs the view by day and at night. But at night, with the lights on inside, someone standing close to the glass can show as a soft silhouette.

Rainbow: privacy is light. At night with the lights on inside, people and shapes can be seen. If privacy is the goal, choose frosted.

Why am I not seeing rainbows?

Rainbows show in direct sun only. The sun has to land right on the glass.

  • East windows get it in the morning, west windows toward evening, south windows for much of the day.
  • On cloudy days, at night and on north-facing glass the film is a soft stained-glass texture in one calm tone, with no rainbows.

Your glass

Will it stick to my glass?

Yes on smooth glass and on lightly textured glass, like many bathroom windows. No on heavily textured or pebbled glass: the film needs enough flat contact to hold, and pebbled glass leaves too little. Which film suits your glass?

Is it OK in a steamy bathroom?

The frosted film’s low tack bond is made for bathroom windows and shower doors. It is designed to hold the sheet flat through steam, corners and edges included.

Start with spotless glass (see step 1 of the install guide): clean glass helps the film stay put.

Sizes & shapes

My pane’s shorter side is over 46 inches. Now what?

The film comes off a 46 inch roll, so one piece covers up to 46 in on the shorter side. If your shorter side is over 46 in, we make two pieces at no extra charge. You choose a horizontal seam (pieces top and bottom) or a vertical seam (pieces side by side) in Step 3 of the Amazon form.

46 × 80 in is one piece. 47 × 80 in is two.

My pane is longer than 96 inches.

Longer than 96 in: please message us before ordering. The price tiers stop at 96 in.

Round panes and rounded corners?

For a circle, pick the tier for the diameter and write “circle” and the diameter in the size box. For rounded corners or an odd shape, order the rectangle that covers it and trim the corners while installing.

Ordering

I have several panes. One order or many?

Fill in the Customize form once for each different size. Several panes of the same size: one item, with the cart quantity set to the number of panes. One piece covers one pane.

The order card lists every pane with its tier, its size text and the total.

Is the price on this site the final price?

The tiers here match our Amazon listings: 12 in $4.99, 24 in $12.99, 36 in $22.99, 48 in $36.99, 60 in $54.99, 72 in $76.99, 84 in $102.99 and 96 in $132.99. Amazon shows the final price at checkout.

Install & removal

What comes in the tube?

Your film cut to size, a squeegee and instructions. From home you need a spray bottle with a few drops of liquid soap in water, a razor blade and glass cleaner.

There are small bubbles after install.

A little trapped water is normal and evaporates within the first week. Wait a few days before a final window cleaning.

Bigger bubble or a crooked edge right after install? Peel the film back, spray more soapy water and squeegee again from the center out.

Can I take it down later?

Yes. Both films use a low tack adhesive and peel away without residue. Lift a corner and peel slowly.

Renting? Check your lease before you put anything on the glass.
