French door window film, pane by pane
A French door has many small panes, and each one gets its own piece of film. Count the panes, measure one, and the pane size tells you which listing to order from and what it costs.
You need
- A tape measure that reads inches
- The number of panes on each door
- The glass size of one pane (check two or three)
1Step one
Count the panes
One piece of film covers one pane, so start by counting. A 10-lite door has 10 panes; a 15-lite door has 15. Count each door you want to cover, and add them up.
Only covering the lower panes for privacy? Count just those.
2Step two
Measure one pane: the glass, not the frame
Measure the visible glass of one pane, in inches: width and height. Leave out the wood or vinyl bars (the muntins) around it. The film is cut to the glass.
On most French doors every pane is the same size. Measure two or three to be sure. If some differ, write each size down: different sizes are ordered separately.
Tape measures give fractions; type them as they are, like 5 3/4. The measuring guide covers the rest: the longest side, odd shapes and two-piece panes.
3Step three
The pane size picks the listing
SHINECOR sells French-door film three ways on Amazon. Your pane size decides which one fits.
Panes up to 6 × 12 in: the 10-pack
Ten pre-cut 6 × 12 in pieces for $22.99. A 10-lite door takes one pack; a 15-lite door takes two. Smaller panes: trim the piece to fit.
Panes wider than 6 in or taller than 12 in need one of the cut-to-size listings instead; a 6 × 12 piece would leave a clear strip.
Frosted 10-pack (opens Amazon in a new tab) · Rainbow 10-pack (opens Amazon in a new tab)
Frosted panes up to 20 in: the French Door listing
Each piece cut to your pane, priced by the longest side: 12 in $4.99 · 14 in $5.99 · 16 in $6.99 · 18 in $7.99 · 20 in $8.99.
Quantity = number of panes. Every piece in one order is cut to the same size, so panes of different sizes are separate orders.
Bigger panes: the custom listings
Frosted panes over 20 in, and rainbow panes that aren’t 6 × 12 in, use the regular custom listings, from $4.99 for the 12 in tier.
Fill in the Customize form once for each different size. Several panes of the same size: one item, with the cart quantity set to the number of panes.

Few small panes? For 1 to 4 frosted panes up to 6 × 12 in, the per-piece French Door listing costs less; from 5 panes, the 10-pack costs less. Amazon shows the final price at checkout.

Before you buy
Frosted film blurs the view by day and at night, but at night with the lights on inside, someone close to the glass can show as a soft silhouette.
Rainbows show in direct sun only.
Neither film holds on heavily textured or pebbled glass.
4Sidelights
Sidelights: tall, narrow glass beside the door
A sidelight is usually one long pane, so it is measured and ordered like a window: width × height of the glass, and the longest side picks the tier. A 10 × 60 in sidelight is the 60 in tier, $54.99 on the custom listings. Amazon shows the final price at checkout.
Sidelights with small panes, like a French door, follow the steps above, pane by pane. Front doors with sidelights and a transom: the front door guide.
Two sidelights the same size: one item, cart quantity 2.
Small panes are quick to install
Each pane goes on the same way as a window: clean the glass, spray it with mild soapy water, peel the liner, place the piece and squeegee from the center out. Small pieces are easy to handle alone. The low-tack film peels off later without residue.
