Window film for large windows: when it comes in two pieces

The film comes off a 46 inch roll. One seamless piece covers up to 46 in on the shorter side. Bigger than that, we make it in two pieces at no extra charge, and you choose where the seam goes. Sizes go up to 96 in on the longest side.

1The 46 in rule

It’s the shorter side that counts

Measure the glass, not the frame. Then look at the shorter of the two sides:

A 46 × 80 in pane is one piece. A 47 × 80 in pane is two.

A wide pane whose shorter side counts up from 40 to 47 inches. Past 46 inches a dashed seam appears and the pane becomes two pieces; the seam can be horizontal or vertical. short 12 12 Shorter side: 40 in One piece (46 in or less) Over 46 in: two pieces, no extra charge

2Pick the seam

Horizontal or vertical: you choose

When your pane comes in two pieces, you pick the seam in Step 3 of Amazon’s Customize form:

A good place for the seam is where the window already has a line: a bar, a sash or a handle height. Try both buttons on the drawing to see each one.

The ordering guide shows the seam box on the real form.

3Prices

Priced by the longest side

Big panes use the same price ladder as every custom piece: the longest side picks the tier. Two pieces cost the same as one.

Same prices for frosted and rainbow. Amazon shows the final price at checkout. Longer than 96 in: please message us before ordering.

Before you buy

Frosted film blurs the view by day and at night, but at night with the lights on inside, someone close to the glass can show as a soft silhouette.

Rainbows show in direct sun only.

Neither film holds on heavily textured or pebbled glass.

Type 59 1/2 or 59.5. Glass only, not the frame.

4Installing big pieces

Two people make it easy

A big piece is easier with two people: one holds the top edge while the other guides the bottom onto the wet glass. Spray the glass and the adhesive side generously so the film can slide into place, then squeegee from the center out.

With two pieces, place the first, then line up the second along the seam before you squeegee it down. All the steps, with photos and a real video: the install guide.
